| Darden owns and operates restaurants in the middle range which in bad economic times will suffer considerable from a lack of consumer spending. Moving forward, as Americans spend considerably less on credit cards, these restaurants will suffer more than either the upscale properties or the lower scale fast fooderies. We believe these restaurants will find the conversion to a cash economy in that industry very difficult, and that sales will remain low for a considerable period, therefor, we recommend holding these shares long term, as once the economy picks up again, these will be more popular than ever, and leaner, stronger enterprises. |
